Why tune in?

Listen to hear Phil and Maxine share helpful tips on:

What happens at the end of your tenancy?

At the end of your contract, what happens next will depend on what you want – and what your landlord wants. It can feel like a scary time, but it’s important to remember you have options. You could renew your contract, which could involve a rent increase. Or, your tenancy may become periodic (no fixed end date). While this can provide you with flexibility, it works both ways, and the landlord could end this without much notice. Of course, you could always move out also.

What you should do depends on your situation (e.g. financial, personal) and what you want to do. Your rental is your home, but you also have the freedom to move if you choose to. It’s up to you – consider your options carefully. If the landlord doesn’t want to extend the tenancy, they should give you a few months’ notice, says Maxine. Stay in contact with them – and get everything in writing.
